SILENCE IS GOLDEN

By Billy Roberts on Nov 30, 08 11:39 AM

But is Silence really Golden?  To some people silence is a threat and  is simply a doorway to loneliness, and to others it is perhaps a route of escape when life has become too stressful.  Some people have no silence at all; these individuals destroy everyone else's silence by creating chaos and talking incessantly.  To some people silence is a 'supernatural burden' that is capable of bringing dread to the mightiest of souls.  In crowds they seek isolation and to drive away the invisible enemy of silence.  Plato once said: 'The fool speaks because he wants to talk; the wise man speaks because he has something to say.'  The Swiss precept says it all: 'SPRECHEN IST SILBERN, SCHWEIGEN IST GOLDERN'.  Speech is silver, Silence is golden. But, is it really?  Maurice Maeterlink, twentieth century playright and mystic once said, 'Speech is of Time, Silence is of Eternity.'  Now, that's more like it!

WHEN IS A TREE NOT A TREE?

By Billy Roberts on Nov 27, 08 10:53 AM

When is a tree not a tree? When it's used to annoy your neighbours is the simple answer!  I suppose it goes on everywhere; but in Heswall people seem to delight in using the height of their hedges to have a go at their neighbours.  Take my advice: if you've got a nice view from your bedroom window, don't fall out with your neighbours, because they'll just plant some fast growing trees to obscure your view.

Good advice: 1)find out when their birthdays are and always send them a card. 2)Tell them that their grandchildren  or children are lovely and a credit to them. 3) Always invite them to your parties. 4) Always go out of your way to pass the time of day. 5) NEVER, EVER REMARK THAT THEIR HEDGES ARE GETTING A LITTLE OUT OF HAND!  DEADLY, BELIEVE ME!

Just as a matter of interest for all those who attempt to advertise their businesses on my blog: Do you really think that I would publish your entries?  What's the point - no one sees what you have written - it's deleted immediately

A MOMENT OF YOUR TIME ...

By Billy Roberts on Nov 22, 08 01:26 PM

How many people do you know who sit all day without a friend?

They never grumble, and they never seem to moan, but they're always glad to see the day end.

How many times have you given it some thought, that it would be nice if you could only, give a moment of your time to one who is lonely?

How many times have you wanted so much to give someone a helping hand?

But with so much to do, and very little time, you just knew they would understand.

They always appear so happy, and there's nothing they can't seem to do, but the smile they wear when you see them, is the smile they wear just for you.

Milk still standing on the step, and callers get no reply; just because that person would never let you see them cry.

So, when in doubt, don't just think, and whisper, 'Oh, if only...'

Because, a moment of your time is a lifetime to one who is lonely.

THE FADED PHOTOGRAPH

By Billy Roberts on Nov 22, 08 01:26 PM

A face that once was so alive is now just an image in a wooden frame.

Although the photograph is slowly fading, the smile on the face is still the same.

That familiar look still offers me advice, when I am feeling sad, I'd be lost without the memories and this photograph of dad.

I seem to listen to him more now than when he was here; his image in the wooden frame reminds me that he's near.

Often when I am restless, into my dreams he will walk; he'll sit with me for hours, and of my problems we will talk.

He tells me he is happy - that we've never really been apart.  And although it was hard to understand, it was time for him to make a new start.

So, whenever I am feeling low, and self-pity over rules, I hold dad's faded photograph, and realise sorrow is for fools.

THE PORCELAIN FIGURE

By Billy Roberts on Nov 22, 08 01:26 PM

Placed out of sight on a dusty shelf, hidden in the gloom without honour, stands an old porcelain figure, with the gentle face of the Madonna.

She had once stood in a place of pride, on the mantel watching over all; now she stands out of sight on a dusty shelf, because she did not answer a sorrowful call.

But now the dusty porcelain figure, stands to remind us all, how like our minds is the dusty shelf, where we place God until we call!

GOD'S LAW IS EVOLUTION

By Billy Roberts on Nov 19, 08 11:32 AM

The one thing we can all be certain of is death!  Death is the unwanted guest; the guest who resides with us from the very day we are born, right up until the day it decides to leave, taking us with it!  Most of us hope that the guest will outstay its welcome.  Few of us mind how long it chooses to reside in our lives!  After all, the longer it stays, the longer we get to live!

The mouse nibbling away at the piece of cheese is completely oblvious to the cow from which it all originated.  The cow is probably not mindful that beyond itself evolution is meticulously processing everything - life and death, without one single compassionate thought! Should this be the case then, why pray?  Prayers are frequently answered, of that there is no doubt!  Answered,by whom?  Evolution?

Woody Allen was once asked: 'Are you afraid of death?'  To which he replied: 'No!  I just don't want to be there when it happens!'   Sensible answer Woody!  What's the point of believing in nothing at all?  Do you believe in something?  What? Evolution, or God? Theology teaches that we are punished for or sins.  The Higher teachings tell us that we are in fact punished by our sins, and certainly not for them!

It's now a scientific fact that having a pet is good for your health.  Scientists have concluded that children brought up with either a dog or a cat are more emotionally balanced than those who do not have a pet! Dogs can ease your physical  as well as your emotional pains.  In fact, both dogs and cats precipitate the release of endorphins (the body's natural pain killers) in our brains, making us feel well. It's not just their warm and furry presence that makes us feel good, they actually release a subtle energy into the atmosphere that heals the body and the mind.

THE MAGIC LOCKER STAGE SHOW

By Billy Roberts on Nov 8, 08 04:08 PM

The Magic Locker Stage show will be on the Liverpool Empire for one week, beginning on 14th September 2009.  Although auditions will be held for the various parts next year, I am pleased to announce that one of the main characters, The Sleepy Time Keeper is to be played by Liverpool's very own celebrity hairdresser, Herbert Howe.  So, when is a dream not a dream? When you are in the World of the magic Locker of course!

SLEEPY'S SONG: 'You've got to believe in you, and do the things you really want to do: and all your dreams will come true, if you believe in YOU.

First you say you can and then you don't; then you say you will and then you say you won't; you will only ever succeed, if you believe in YOU.

If you keep on smiling, the whole world will smile at you; if you're nice to everybody, everybody will be nice to you.

That's not necessarily true, because people will always play on you; but all your dreams will come true, if you believe in YOU!'

THE MAGIC LOCKER: PUBLISHED BY TRINITY MIRROR. AVAILABLE NOW IN ALL GOOD BOOK SHOPS.

STAGE SHOW: LIVERPOOL EMPIRE: 14th SEPTEMBER 2009.
