The Buddhist precept, 'You don't get what you want, you get who you are!' Probably makes far more sense than we realise, particularly when we make a detailed analysis of all the things that have gone wrong in our lives. I am not talking about the loss of a child, or some other mortifying experience that life sometimes throws at us. Of course I am not! I am talking about the inaccuracy of some of our judgements, wrong decisions, people we befriend, our health, gluttony, addiction, all those out of control human emotions and tendencies that frequently tear our lives apart. Although theology warns us quite clearly that we are punished for our sins, the higher teachings of the Law of Karma, tell us that we are most certainly NOT punished for our sins, but that we are punished by our own ignorance. Furthermore, we are the architects of our own destinies by the way we think! The old saying 'What goes around, comes around,' possesses far more truth than we think. Whatever we send out into the universe, according to the laws of physics, must ultimately return to us. Much better that we send out love rather than hate, peace and calm, rather than anxiety and distress. Curses and Blessings truly do come home to roost. Should you send hatefull and malicious thoughts towards another person, regardless of whether or not that person deserves them, they will surely return to you, and will gather force from the impact! Remember, the Universe alone is right! When you change you attitude towards things and other people, things and other people will change their attitude towards you. You don't believe me? Try it and see!
