SEEING IS BELIEVING - OR IS IT?

Posted by Billy Roberts on August 19, 2007 11:02 AM |

People frequently say to me 'I saw a ghost once...' to which I always politely reply, 'That's interesting!' The majority of people wrongly think that their ghostly encounters are unique, and although it may have been a 'one off' experience for them, seeing ghostly apparitions is far more common than one might imagine. Ghostly appearances can be so fleeting though that with the passage of time the one who has had the experience is frequently left wondering if he or she actually saw anything at all! The mind is an extremely complex system and one that very often has difficulty processing images that are nebulous and vague, and which therefore do not appear real, as in the case of a 'Ghostly' manifestation. The minds of those who believe in such paranormal occurrences as ghosts will always 'see' something in nothing, whilst the sceptic is perhaps far more analytical, and to them 'seeing is truly believing' - or is it? Retrospective analysis is the psychological process of looking back on an event that has caught our interest. When we do this the mind frequently changes the experience we have had, making it into something more tangible and interesting. Sceptics don't seem to have that problem, but they are, however, frequently left wondering!
When anyone is informed that they are being taken to a so-called 'Haunted' location, long before they actually arrive at their destination, their mind will have created its own ghosts and demons, and a self-induced hallucination will occur. And in the same situation, a sceptic too would be left wondering!

Dear Billy,

I like you think spiritualism simehow is losing direction and people i find are only interested in messages not the philosophy.I think eventually if the EU has its way will be driven to hold meetins as of old in houses away from the churches.
As for hauntings I stayed recently in an old converted cottge in scotland as soon as we got there many things started to occur through the night voices knockings things moving ect when I confronted the owner hwe said others have experience exactly the same and wont return. So I said a blessing for Gods peace and light and asked for th them to move on and explained to them what they are doing days later an old lady thanked me for helping them and the atmosphere in the place improved. I had no prior knowledge of ths place or its history so i was glad to help
Again i am disallusioned with spiritualism and the constant battles fught within the churches for personal power I now go my own sweet way helping where I can.

regards June
