THE MAGIC OF THE AURA

A word which is today greatly misunderstood by the majority of people showing a serious interest in the paranormal is 'AURA,' literally meaning 'subtle atmosphere.' We often say 'She has an aura of happiness,' or 'this house has an aura of peace,' without actually understanding its true meaning. The word aura is, in fact, far more than a descriptive term. It is a scientific fact - a metaphysical phenomenon. The aura is best described in scientific terms as a vaporous mass of electro magnetic particles surrounding both animate and inanimate objects. However, the aura surrounding the human form differs in more ways than one to that surrounding inanimate matter, in as much as the human aura represents the degree of life and consciousness present. Life is still present in inanimate things, albeit at a lower level, and this is apparent in the aura surrounding it, which is dull and lifeless.
A husband and wife team from Krasnodar on the Black Sea, Semyon and Valentina Kirlian developed a camera capable of photographing the Aura around the hands. Although a crude apparatus, the Kirlians camera was an innovation and an inspiration to others working in the same field. The Kirlians discovered that the radiations of energy visible in their monochrome photographs corresponded with the seventy points in Chinese Acupuncture, which meant disease could be detected in the aura long before it became apparent in the body. The aura was referred to as the Human Bioluminescence, a sort of a blueprint of the human health. In the 1930s Dr Kilner, a Radiologist at St Thomas's Hospital in London, developed a technique that enabled the aura to be seen and a diagnosis of disease easily made. His method was a coal tar dye injected between two pieces of glass. When the patient stood in front of a bright light, the Kilner Screen, as it was called, made the aura visible. Where disease was present, the aura would be fragmented and dark in appearance.
Today, the aura camera has greatly improved, and photographs can now be made in colour and of the whole body. Kodak, one of the makers of the camera, have also included computerised imaging which produces a full print out of information relating to the person's aura.
The Halo of tradition, painted by medieval artists around the heads of saints was a symbolic representation of the aura, and symbolised Divinity or exalted state.
The multi-coloured feathers in the native American Indian's Head dress was also a representation of the aura, and depicted his spirituality and position in the tribe.
A monk's tonsure (shaven head) was done to expose that part of the aura to God and the Cosmos, with the belief it would cleanse and raise the consciousness.
WHEN IS A MEDIUM NOT A MEDIUM?

It is believed that before our prehistoric forebears developed even the most rudimentary form of speech, they communicated their thoughts and feelings telepathically. One noteable victorian writer once said: 'We only developed speech so we could lie to each other!' Whether or not the latter is true, the fact remains that the human mind possesses incredible potential, and whilst the eyes are very often an unreliable source of information, the mind is able to produce data which is beyond belief. When cornered, even the sceptic will admit to having had at least one paranormal experience. And when one sits down to think about one's experiences, many 'unexplainable' things have occurred during one's lifetime. But why do some people have psychic experiences and others do not? What makes one person mediumistically inclined and able to 'see' or 'hear' spirits, and others completely oblivious to anything? In the early part of the twentieth century, Russian neurologist, Ivan Tutinsky, conducted research into the function of the brain of a so called 'psychic' person. The noteable scientist concluded that the pineal gland - the walnut shaped gland deep within the brain was in fact responsible. Tutinsky discovered that this amazing gland radiated electro-magnetic waves, and that it was larger in a child than it was in an adult, and marginally more developed in the female than in the male. This, he concluded, was the reason why children are often more prone to psychic experiences than adults, and why women are more psychically inclined than men! It's official then, women are more psychic than men.
It was further discovered that the majority of people do have some sort of 'paranormal' experience either before falling asleep - the hypnogogic state, or just before waking - the hypnopompic state, and that most people dismiss these experiences as being the results of fatigue. The truth is that whilst everyone is potentially psychic, it really only awakens in a minority. Contrary to the popular Spiritualist theory, being psychic or mediumistically inclined is far from normal. At least, according to professor Tutinsky the brains of mediums are abnormal, and exhibit an abnormality in the neurological electrical circuitry. It's official, then, I AM NOT NORMAL! NOTHING NEW THERE!
WHEN IS A HAUNTED HOUSE NOT A HAUNTED HOUSE

It may come as a surprise to many but apparitions and things that go bump in the night are not always caused by discarnate spirits. Even the ghostly appearance of the lady in white floating gracefully down the staircase, or the mayhem produced by so-called poltergeist activity, may be no more than the result of triboluminescence - the geological phenomenon of friction produced by two crystal deposits. Geological disturbance can precipitate a variety of paranormal phenomena by interrupting the electro-magnetic atmosphere and causing a replay of 'spooky events', rather like playing a DVD of a ghostly movie. All human experience and emotional activity impregnates the atmosphere's 'natural memory bank', rather like data stored on a computer. Occasionally the memory is tripped and the replay of events takes place and the ghostly apparitions are witnessed. However, some people are more susceptible than others to the phenomenon of triboluminescence, and because of a slight abnormality in the brain, such as temporal lobe epilepsy, he or she may be the only one to 'see' the ghostly appearance.
It must be said, though, that not all ghostly manifestations are produced by geological disturbance. SOME ARE VERY REAL! THEY COULD EVEN BE WATCHING YOU NOW!!!
